Farms operate on a different schedule than the rest of us. Seeds must be purchased and planted, fields prepared, livestock fed. But all of those schedules – and many more – were dramatically impacted by the floods. Fields were badly eroded and need to be graded and reconstituted. The alfalfa usually stored for winter feedings were wiped out, requiring pricey purchases from out of state. Similarly, equipment was destroyed. The list goes on. The farms are in trouble and need long-term support.
